Canadians mourn at funeral of soldier Nathan Cirillo slain in Ottawa

Thousands of mourners have turned out for the funeral of the Canadian soldier shot dead in last week’s attack on the seat of government in Ottawa.
24-year-old Corporal Nathan Cirillo was one of two soldiers police said were killed separately by recent converts to Islam.
The ceremony at Hamilton near Lake Ontario featured a strong presence from members of his regiment.
His five-year-old son wore an Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders cap.
Canada’s prime minister Stephen Harper paid an emotional tribute.
“And may his son, young Marcus Daniel Cirillo, someday find comfort in the fact that our entire country looks up to his dad, with pride, with gratitude, with deep, abiding respect,” Harper told mourners.
Nathan Cirillo was gunned down unarmed as he stood watch at the national memorial.
According to police his killer said in a video the attack was in protest at Canadian foreign policy. The military is part of the US-led air strike operation against ISIL.
Michael Zehaf-Bibeau was shot dead by a security officer as he attacked parliament.
Intelligence services have warned that extremists taking up arms pose a “serious threat”.
