Macarons are colorful French confectionary masterpieces that are moist and usually melt right in the mouths of indulging diners. Recently a sumo wrestler in Japan received an absolutely massive one as a prize.

Not to be confused with the typical American coconut macaroon, the French macaron is a colorful confectionary made with ground almonds and a creamy filling. While they might be big in the foodie world, they are also really big in the sumo world. Recently a sumo wrestler in Japan received an absolutely massive one as a prize.

The unusual gift was handed over at the Sumo Senshuraku tournament in Japan to the runner-up of the competition. The macaron gift is part of the France-Japan Friendship Cup. The treat was made by French pastry chef Pierre Hermé who is very well known for his pastry talents and even goes by the nickname "the Picasso of Pastry".

This year’s dessert was far bigger than an average human head and was appropriately named the “Big Macaron’, fitting considering that it was being awarded to a large sumo wrestler.

This year makes it reportedly the second time that a huge macaron was handed out as a prize during the tournament. It’s unclear if next year’s macaron will be the same size or a different color.
