McDonald's Japan apologizes for China meat scandal

It was scheduled as a regular earnings news conference, but McDonald's Japan CEO, Sarah Casanova, wanted to say sorry:

(SOUNDBITE) (English) CEO OF MCDONALD'S JAPAN, SARAH CASANOVA, SAYING:

"Firstly, I would like to extend my sincere apology to our valued customers for any anxiety or concern that this situation may have caused."

The apology was the latest of a series from McDonalds following revelations that the company had used expired chicken products supplied by Shanghai Husi Food -- the company at the center of a food safety scare in China.

But Casanova says her company is moving forward with transparency:

"So today, I would like to announce that we are expanding the availability of sourcing information on our website for all of our customers to see."
