According to a statement released by the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office, Kalchenia missed his turn, and was focused on his rear wheels through his rearview mirror while maneuvering in order to fix this. While doing so, he continued to move the truck forward onto the train tracks.

The crash ignited the fluid being carried on the truck and caused extensive damage to the train's engine.

When emergency responders arrived on the scene, there was fire on both sides of the tracks, with flames reaching 35 to 40 feet into the air.

No one on the train was injured.

Kalchenia is listed in stable condition in the trauma ICU unit of a University of Kentucky hospital. His wife told news station WKYT that he underwent surgery on Monday, and is scheduled for another procedure Friday.
