A quick and mostly mess-free way to make cake may soon be on store shelves. Two Harvard students came up with the idea for what they call ‘Spray Cake’ which is basically a microwaved baked treat.

As the name implies, the cake batter is sprayed from an aerosol can. John McCallum and Brooke Nowakowski developed the sprayable cake for a class project.

Little did they know their science project would turn into an awesome invention. Nowakowski remarked “Honestly, we were kind of shocked that it hadn’t been done before…we were basically looking everywhere we could, high and low, for anyone who had done some
The cake batter is packaged in what appears to be a whipped cream can. Once a baker sprays the cake comes out pre-risen, which means an oven isn’t required in the baking process.

Cook time in the microwave is about 1 minute. As an awesome bonus, ‘Spray Cake' is organic.

McCallum and Nowakowski have already found a seller for their product. All they need now is a manufacturer.

The ‘Spray Cake’ project won the Harvard Innovation Challenge in addition to AdClub’s Branding Challenge. What do you think of the concept?
