Few complain that airplane accommodations are too spacious and comfortable, yet Airbus has filed a patent for even smaller, more crowded seating.
Few air passengers would say that airplane accommodations are too spacious and comfortable, yet Airbus has filed a patent for even smaller, more crowded seating.
In an effort to make inexpensive flights yield greater financial returns, the plane manufacturer’s idea is to do away with the ‘bulk’ that luxuries like cushions create.
So more people can fit in economy class, the seats have been whittled down to the type typically seen on bicycles and the backs are simple slabs held up by a post.
It’s unclear if the bike saddles double as flotation devices.
Trays and cup holders do not appear to be part of the plan. Further, as the chairs fold up and down like the ones in theaters, leaving stuff on one’s seat during a bathroom break is also out of the question.
Airbus is confident that if it means flying for less, people will have no problem with the changes.
They say that due to the growing girth of passengers, significantly diminishing the space currently between chairs isn’t a viable option, so they’ve come up with the best alternative.
Fortunately for passengers everywhere, the company has acknowledged that the seats may never reach production.
