US Military To Develop Portable, Bullet Proof Barrier

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or DARPA has announced their intention to develop a portable cylinder that can expand to become a protective barrier. They reportedly want to make a device that can be deployed with the push of a button, or the pull of a tab to instantly create a wall or shield, similar to the bubble shield from the video game Halo 3.

It will be resistant to hand tools like axes, saws, shovels, and hammers, and for “added functionality” capable of protecting those inside against bullets and other ballistic weapons.
DARPA representatives are quoted saying: “These deployable systems are expected to have many potential applications ranging from blocking access to munitions caches to creating temporary buildings for those impacted by natural disasters.”
DARPA reportedly wants the device to be just under a foot wide and around six and a half feet long, weighing 300 pounds or less.
The project is called BlockADE, which stands for Block Access to Deny Entry, and the United States military is now accepting proposals for ways that it could be engineered.
