Blood has been spilled at a train station in China.

Officials say a single knife-wielding assailant wounded six people in the southern city of Guangzhou.

One witness described the attack.

"The assailant just slashed people madly. He didn't target anyone in particular. He just slashed madly."

Police gave no reason for the attack, but China has grown nervous about Islamic militancy.

In March, 29 people were stabbed at train station in Kunming. China blamed the attack on Islamist militants.

As crews scrubbed the plaza, police presence increased dramatically.

Police detained just a single suspect, who had been shot and wounded.

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman condemned the attack.
