SCARFACE 4 LIFE: RIKERS ISLAND
BY TROY REED . PART 1 OF 3

Written and directed by Troy Reed, & a former corrections officer at Rikers Island Prison(Lorenzo Steele),this documentary exposes the savagery of the system, as if the law is the furthest priority and rehabilitation is secondary, if rateable at all to survival. As one inmate shares history of life in Rikers: "This is gladiator school. You gotta be an animal inhere." You will be up-close and per-sonal with the extreme behaviors on the part of inmates, CO's and staff to maintain control.

This ain't no Frontline exposé. "Scarface 4 Life" shows you how it really is from the mouths of the players. Hear testimonials from former convicts and correctional officers (CO's) from Rikers Island about penal life, the pecking order, gang identity, population segregation, instances of inmate to inmate and inmate to correctional officer violence, especially the rampant practice of 'slashing'. Hence the name "Scarface 4 Life", where as an inmate, you're not even safe behind the bars. Where 'slashing predators' can and will, for whatever reason slash your face for sometimes no reason at all.

The intent is to offer main-stream society an in depth look into the hard reality of underground street life of money, drugs, prison and Life and Death, and the tragedy of it all.

The existing conditions within the penal system (especially the maximum security facilities), rehabilitation and crime prevention. Seeing instances of the prison black market where any and everything can be bought or sold. The sheer accessibility of weapons and drugs can be had for a price, with the collaboration of CO's and facility management is shocking in and of itself.
