French police in Paris were on alert Monday after a double shooting they say was carried out by the same gunman.

Police say an unknown assailant fired several rounds from a hunting gun inside the offices of the left-wing French newspaper, Liberation.

The paper's deputy director said the gunman seriously injured a photographer's assistant before fleeing.

Police say no one was injured in the second incident and there's no clear motive yet for either shooting.
