Animal rescue workers in Calgary are furious and heartbroken after an under two-month-old puppy was discovered, completely abandoned and severely burned. A Good samaritan found the pup and immediately contacted the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society or AARCS for short.

Deanna Thompson, who works for the organization stated “It looks like there is some sort of tar or something flammable was poured on his face or thrown in his face and lit on fire. I can’t imagine how a seven week old puppy would have facial burns like that on his own.”

The dog, now named Nero was immediately taken in to a local clinic for emergency veterinary care. He was forced to undergo surgery and sadly he lost both ears resulting from the extensive burn damages.

The AARCS notified the local SPCA of Nero’s ordeal in the hopes that they will be able to catch the suspect responsible for carrying out such a cruel act. Employees at the AARCS also launched a campaign to raise funds through their website for Nero’s follow-up treatment and care.

For now, veterinarians are trying to ensure Nero doesn’t develop an infection, but he is being described as a resilient, “happy go lucky” pup.
