Nothing gets people talking more than the sighting of an unusual creature.

Magnetic Island is at the center of some quickly spreading rumors concerning the Loch Ness monster.

Visitors and residents on the island can’t stop talking about a recent bizarre sighting.

One man managed to capture a photo of the creature that could be seen above the water’s surface. The male who took the picture, David Herron stated “I looked out and saw this thing in the water and thought 's---, it's a Loch Ness monster'. There was this feeling of excitement on the beach, and all these people were pointing and talking about what it could be.”

While the image serves as proof that something was definitely in the water, its hard to tell if the floating specimen is an object or a living creature. A James Cook University biology professor believes the sighting was actually a piece of wood floating on the surface, either from a tree or a boat.

As of right now, the most reasonable explanation is that low tide unveiled part of a sunken ship.

Despite the unproven circumstances, the sighting and photo could boost tourism in the local area.
