'Her face is on fire': Flaming sambuca shot goes horribly wrong in Manchester bar

A flaming sambuca shot left a Manchester woman with severe burns after it reportedly "exploded" in her face. The unidentified 24-year-old was out drinking in the early hours of the morning at Manchester's Lola's Cocktail Lounge. When she began drink the flaming cocktail, her face was engulfed in flames.

Eye-witnesses cited by the Manchester Evening News suggested she was at the bar with a friend at the time of the accident. Paramedics quickly arrived at the scene, responding to a 1:54am report of a woman with her "face on fire." The freak accident left her with burns to her forehead, cheeks and chest and she was taken to the burns unit of Wythenshawe Hospital.

Lola's describes itself a "Miami-style cocktail lounge" and promises customers "will get a chance to make [their] own cocktails ... even play with fire!"

"We sincerely offer our sympathies for her injuries sustained," said a spokesman for the bar. "We have been trading for many years and have never had another incident such as this and we have revisited our health and safety procedures once again to prevent this type of freak accident from happening again."
