Bella, a 14-pound schnauzer-terrier mix, got herself to an Ottowa, Canada emergency clinic after being attacked by a German shepherd.
The day started off on an up note, with Bella’s owner, Bruce, taking her on an outing to a local farm.
The dog had been suffering from a contagious cough for a week and had been unable to go to her usual off leash dog park.
When the duo got to the farm, however, they encountered a woman with an aggressive German shepherd mix.
Neither dog was on a leash and the shepherd pounced on Bella, biting and shaking her, causing significant injuries.
After calling 9-1-1 and arguing with the shepherd’s owner for a while, Bruce turned to grab Bella, but she was nowhere to be found.
In the midst of his search, he realized he’d gotten a voice message.
It was a local emergency care center letting him know that Bella was there.
The injured dog had traveled through a cornfield, across 6 lanes of heavy traffic, and right up to a paramedic facility.
Paramedics transported Bruce and Bella to a vet where she underwent a three-hour surgery. Bella is now at home recovering from her injuries.
