Angela Merkel’s CDU party, along with her CSU allies, almost won enough seats in Germany’s general election for an absolute majority in parliament. That would have been a first since Konrad Adenauer did so in 1957. Our guest Jacqueline Hénard analyses the roots of Merkel’s popularity and gives us her thoughts on the Chancellor’s next move. Indeed, despite her big win, Angela Merkel still needs to form a new coalition, which will not be an easy task.
