Body and Soul Tate Buddy 1977
Tenor Saxophonist Buddy Tate gives a stunning interpretation of Body and Soul. The standard for playing Body and Soul was set from the recording made by Coleman Hawkins in 1939. Many a tenorplayer has done a good job since and Buddy Tate with many years in the Basie Band certainly deserves his place in jazz history.
This is from one of the Peter Appleyard shows in Toronto in 1977. Peter does a super job on the vibes. It should be noticed that Danny Mastri was on bass. Danny lives in Toronto after moving from New York and having played with many of the world's jazz greats. On drums is Russ Feron and guitar Kenny Gill, both Toronto musicians.
