A homeless man in Portland, Oregon, 50-year-old Timothy Alsip has been accused of robbing a bank for $1 and waiting for police to arrive.

He reportedly walked through the doors of a local Bank of America branch and handed over a note which read ‘This is a hold up. Give me a dollar.’ He then grabbed the buck and went to sit in the lobby to wait for officers.

Deputies believe Alsip pulled the bank stunt to receive medical care. In the week leading up to the robbery, he allegedly flagged down citizens and asked them to call 911. In another incident he told officers he had been struck by a car which wasn’t true and also claimed to have overdosed on drugs.

A police spokesperson stated “His behavior today is consistent with the behavior he has displayed over the last week.” The police department is trying to obtain information about Alsip and his mental state.

In the meantime, he is being held in jail on a $250,000 bond.
