Missing Dog Found 1,300 Miles Away

As yet another success story, microchipping recently helped reunite the Roberts family from Rogers, Arkansas, with their 9-pound Pomeranian dog named Koda found 1,300 miles away in the San Diego area.
With around one third of pets getting lost and only 1 in 10 ever getting found, permanently microchipping pets has become increasingly popular. The 8-year-old dog went missing for more than 2 months while Stephanie Roberts and her kids put up posters and searched for Koda.
A local San Diego resident brought Koda to County Animal Services where they used the microchip to contact Roberts.
According to Dan DeSousa, from the Department of Animal Services, the quickest way to recover a lost pet is through microchipping. DeSousa said, “We always tell people it’s your animal’s ticket home.” Having good people, who find and turn in the animals, helps too.
The Foundation for the Care of Indigent Animals is springing for the bill to fly Koda home. No one has any idea how Koda got to California.
And if 1,300 miles sounded far, DeSousa said his county has even had people turn in dogs from Italy and Saudi Arabia.
