Light of the world - Chris Lawton at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Sculcoates, Hull

Me playing the organ at Our Lady of Lourdes and St Peter Chanel Catholic Church in Sculcoates, Hull.

The organ was built by the John Compton Organ Company Ltd and installed here in 1963 where it is situated on the rear gallery of the church. It is the 2 rank 'Miniatura' model and was probably one of the last Miniatura's the company produced as at this time demand for pipe organs had fallen greatly and Comptons were spending much more of their time producing electronic instruments. The specification reads:

PEDAL
Bourdon 16'
Flute 8'
Great to Pedal
Swell to Pedal

GREAT
Bourdon 16'
Open Diapason 8'
Rohr Gedackt 8'
Principal 4'
Fifteenth 2'

SWELL
Open Diapason 8'
Rohr Gedackt 8'
Flute 4'
Nazard 2.2/3'
Piccolo 2'

As always, whenever I visit somewhere, I try and play something associated with the area and so I found this hymn tune 'Hull' in the Methodist hymn book 'Hymns and Psalms' which is the tune to the hymn 'Light of the world, thy beams I bless'.

Many thanks to the church officials for allowing me access to this little gem of a Compton organ.
