No deaths from WA bridge collapse

Three people are recovering in Washington state after the bridge they were driving on collapsed into the chilly river below.

This man and his wife were in a car behind a wide load semi truck that hit the side of the bridge.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) DAN, COLLAPSED BRIDGE VICTIM SAYING:

"At that point , the wide load caught the right side of the bridge. There was a loud boom, big puff of dust that appeared. The truck somehow made it across that span, as we locked up the breaks, and went right off the edge of the bridge, into the Skagit River with the whole section.

Remarkably, no one was killed.

The bridge, however, is all but destroyed. Transportation authorities are re-routing traffic along the interstate road which acts as the main thoroughfare between Seattle and Vancouver, Canada.

Authorities say bridge was repaired twice last year.

The exact cause of the collapse is still being investigated.
